The brilliant colours of October are beginning to fade, the air is noticeably cooler, and the vineyard is preparing for its winter rest. Inside the winery, however, things are anything but quiet. Harvest is wrapping up, holiday celebrations are beginning, and there’s a sense of anticipation as we welcome one of the most festive times of the year.
Tucking the Vineyard in for Winter
While the growing season may be coming to an end, there’s still plenty of work happening among the vines. November is an important month for our vineyard and winemaking teams. With the final grapes being harvested, attention turns to preparing the vines for the cold Ontario winter ahead.
One of the more distinctive sights at Adamo this time of year is the process of protecting our vines beneath geotextile blankets. These specially designed coverings help insulate the vines against extreme winter temperatures, an essential part of growing premium wine grapes in our cool-climate region.
It’s a labour-intensive process, but one that plays an important role in protecting the vineyard and preparing for another growing season.Meanwhile, inside the winery, the work of transforming this year’s harvest into future vintages is well underway.
A Little Holiday Magic
As the vineyard settles in for winter, the winery begins to take on a more festive atmosphere. Holiday gatherings are filling the calendar, and there’s something particularly inviting about coming together over good food and wine as the days grow shorter.
Our retail boutique is also beginning its seasonal transformation, with beautiful new arrivals, thoughtful gifts and festive finds making their way onto the shelves. From wines worth sharing to little indulgences for the people on your list, it’s becoming a lovely place to browse, discover and get into the holiday spirit.
Uncorked Returns November 20
And then there’s one of our favourite winter traditions. On November 20, Uncorked returns to Adamo Estate Winery, bringing a little warmth and magic to the colder months. Our intimate outdoor dining domes offer a wonderfully different way to experience the winery in winter. Surrounded by the quiet beauty of the season, guests can settle in for an evening of food, wine and conversation in their own private space.
There’s something special about enjoying a beautiful dinner while the winter landscape unfolds just beyond the dome. It’s cozy, memorable and a reminder that wine country has plenty to offer long after the last grapes have been picked.
A Season to Savour
November is a month of transitions. The vineyard rests while the cellar stays busy. Harvest gives way to holiday celebrations, and the winery takes on a different kind of warmth. It’s a time to reflect on another growing season, appreciate the work behind every bottle and look forward to the moments we’ll share around the table in the weeks ahead.
Winter may be on its way, but at Adamo, there’s still plenty to look forward to.
