The Heart of Harvest

The hills are alive with colour, the mornings are crisp, and at Adamo Estate Winery, the vineyard is at the centre of it all. After months of careful tending, watching the weather and nurturing the vines, harvest brings the growing season to its most anticipated moment.

From Vine to Vintage

Harvest is about much more than picking grapes. It’s the culmination of an entire growing season, shaped by sunshine, rainfall, temperature and countless decisions made along the way.

For our vineyard and winemaking teams, timing is everything. Each grape variety ripens at its own pace, and knowing when to harvest requires a careful balance of science, experience and instinct. Sugar levels, acidity and flavour development all play a role, but so does something less measurable: understanding the vineyard and what each vintage has to offer.

Once the grapes are picked, the work moves into the winery, where fermentation and the early stages of winemaking begin. It’s an exciting transition, as the character of the year’s harvest slowly begins to reveal itself.

No two growing seasons are quite alike, and that’s part of what makes Ontario winemaking so interesting. Every vintage tells a slightly different story.

A Seat at the Harvest Table

Harvest is also a time to gather, share good food and celebrate the people and places behind what we enjoy in the glass.

On October 23, we’ll bring that spirit to the table with our Winemaker’s Harvest Table, an evening that connects the vineyard, the cellar and the kitchen. Winemaker Vanessa McKean and Executive Chef Sunil Nandal will share their perspectives on the season through new wine releases, thoughtfully selected pairings and a five-course farm-to-table dinner featuring seasonal ingredients.

More than a dinner, it’s an opportunity to experience harvest from a different perspective and appreciate the work, creativity and collaboration that go into every vintage.

The Beauty of the Season

As October unfolds, the vineyard begins its transition toward winter. The leaves turn brilliant shades of gold and crimson, the pace of the growing season gives way to the rhythm of the cellar, and another chapter in the winery’s story begins.

It’s a reminder that wine is never simply about what’s in the glass. It’s about the land, the seasons, the people and the patience that brings it all together. And there’s perhaps no better time to appreciate that, than harvest.
